Victoria and Christine ran towards the Mangotree warehouse.
A flash of black appeared, zigzagging from one tree to the other.
Christine narrowed her eyes.
Raising her arm, upon which her weapon had already been activated, she watched the timing of the black blur carefully.
It wove in...out...in...out...there!
She fired.
"Ow!"
Three soldiers, clad in black, fell from the trees.
Victoria looked at them.
"Black Tomatoes, huh."
"That's right."
They continued walking.
A woman watched them from the shadows.
"Only two, hmm? Oh well, I'll just chop off their heads and take their rings."
-----
A hand was clamped over Jeanine's mouth.
"Don't speak."
"Mmmf!"
"I said don't speak, idiot!"
The person who was muffling Jeanine dragged her, hand over mouth, away from the lampost.
"You total idiot. Do you know how long we've been looking for you?"
Jeanine spun around. That voice...it was quite familiar.
Behind her stood Kah Yunn, hand on hips, and looking quite miffed. A little off to the side, Yiernoshi was crouched on the ground, staring warily at the men in black a little way off.
"Thos guys are looking for you. If they find you, they'll probably kill you. So let's get out of here."
Jeanine opened her mouth to protest, only to be muffled as Kah Yunn, at the end of her patience, stuffed a towel in her mouth and hauled her away.
-----
Victoria and Christine had reached the warehouse.
"Hmm...d'you think Kah Yunn was really right? That Claire could be the one emitting the signal?"
"I dunno..."
A rustle in the bushes. Christine spun around, weapon at the ready.
"Oh? Tense, are we?"
A woman stepped out of the bushes, grinning. She wore a heavy black jacket, and was spinning a basketball on her finger.
"Who are you?" Christine hissed.
The woman grinned wider.
"Hmm...how rude of little kids like you to just demand for my name like that...didn't your mum tell you that it was rude?"
"Unfortunately, no."
The woman rolled her eyes.
"Whatever. Mischan, self-proclaimed best fighter ever in the Black Tomatoes Third Squad, at your service."
Christine started mentally banging her head against a wall
. Self-proclaimed? What an ego.
Victoria stared at Mischan.
"Better than everyone? At fighting? Really?"
Mischan stared back.
"Yes! I bet I could even beat up my captain hands-down! In fact, I should have been captain!"
She began to rant.
"I transferred over from the White Tomatoes, to assist them with my superior fighting strength, but they treat me like...like one of them! They're supposed to worship me, treat me as their saviour, appoint me as their captain! But no, they have to make that weirdo Rayu captain. I shall chop off your heads, and prove to them that I am true captain!"
She threw back her head and laughed manically.
While she had been laughing, Christine had loaded up her weapon. She had found, during the previous night, a store of dynamite in the basement. She had taken as much as possible to load her weapon with.
Bang. A single shot was fired, gleaming red, hurtling towards Mischan. It knocked her off balance.
Mischan got back up.
"You...you'll pay for this, brat."
She clicked a ring into a box, and out flew several globes, alight with flickering green flame. The globes circled her head, giving her a ghostly halo of sorts.
Victoria looked closer. The globes were, in fact, balls of different types. Football, basketball, rugby ball, tennis ball...there was even a shuttlecock there.
Mischan grinned. She snapped her fingers, and a huge ball hurtled into Christine, knocking her into a tree.
Black, booted feet walked towards Christine. Mischan smirked.
"Enjoy this moment of peace. It's the last one you'll ever have. I'll destroy you."
