And...I decided (more like I was forced) to update another chapter of the mafia story! :)

Maria took out a gun and shot at Yiernoshi.

"Eeek!"

Luckily, Yiernoshi had managed to dodge, and the bullet barely skimmed her head as it flew past.

"Sam! Help me! Shoot me with the special bullet!"

Sam sighed.

"Useless brat..."

She pulled out her handgun and fired.

Nothing happened.

"Dear me, it looks like we're out of bullets."

On her shoulder, the chipmunk chattered excitedly, and its pouch started to glow with a soft light.

"Why is that chipmunk's pouch glowing?!"

"Smike's pouch glows when my students are about to undergo great trials. After that trial, my student will emerge stronger."

Yiernoshi had no idea how a chipmunk's glowing pouch would make her grow stronger.

Oh, well. No time to comtemplate that now, seeing as she was busy dodging bullets.

"Yargh!"

Christine had jumped forward, punching Maria on the shoulder. While this caused Maria to begin bleeding severely from the shoulder, it also cause Christine to get shot.

"Christine!"

"Don't...worry about...me...get...Maria..."

Yiernoshi turned back to Maria, just in time to see her getting zapped by Jeanine's flying handbags.

With that jolt of electricity, Maria collapsed.

And it was over.

Shakily, Yiernoshi breathed a sigh of relief.

Sam jumped off the windowsill she had been standing on, accidentally-on-purpose stepping on Yiernoshi's head along the way.

"Good work. We managed to defeat Maria Silvertongue. And you, Yiernoshi, were just plain pathetic."

Yiernoshi made a face, and bent down to pick the now-unconscious Christine up.

"Kufufu, little Cabonara, it's not over yet."

Yiernoshi spun around wildly.

Maria's voice?

"But...Maria's been defeated," she murmured to herself.

Evidently, the voice had heard her.

"Kufufu, you really think I was that pathetic?"

Oh dear.

"Let's pay you back, shall we? Let's see...for beating up my illusionary body, that handbag lady over there...shall twist her ankle."

In the same instant, Jeanine yelped in pain, and stared at her ankle.

"Yiernoshi! Get out of earshot, now!"

Yiernoshi heard Sam's urgent call, and ran backwards.

"Kufufu, still running, young Cabonara?"

The shape in the shadows moved, and Yiernoshi found herself looking at her real enemy at last.

Maria was slightly taller than Yiernoshi, and wore a mist-patterned shirt, a jacket and black slacks. She had glasses perched on her nose.

Yiernoshi gasped.

"You look about my age!"

Maria smirked.

"Oh, but I am, young Cabonara."

"Why? Why did you attack my schoolmates?"

"It was to lure you out. Kufufu, when I perform the ritual over your dead body, I will be able to possess it."

"What for?"

"Why, with your body, I can take over the mafia world, and turn it into a beautiful sea of blood."

Yiernoshi cringed. Revenge? Just because her family experimented on her friends?

"Isn't that a bit too much?"

Maria grinned, sensing the unasked question.

"Of course, I intend to destroy the Lasagna Family first. But I hate the entire mafia world. So, I will eliminate them all."

"Now, let's end this."

Maria pushed up her glasses.

"Kufufu~you shall suffocate."

Yiernoshi felt a pressure on her lungs. She tried to draw breath, but failed.

She tried to scream, but all that came out was a raspy squeak.

At that same instant, Smike, Sam's chipmunk, sort of exploded.

A harsh yellow light filled the room, and a shadowy object was flung from Smike's pouch. It landed next to Yiernoshi.

Dimly, Yiernoshi registered the package. Was that...a candy cane?!

Wait.

Candy canes were hard, right?

With the last of her strength, she threw the candy cane at Maria.

"Oof!"

Maria fell backwards, and lost concentration. Instantly, the choking hold on Yiernoshi's lungs disappeared.

Yiernoshi looked at the package again.

Licorice, toffee, a lollipop, sherbets, chocolate bars...among other stuff.

She squinted closer. There were labels!

The toffee was 'Super-Sticky'.

Hmm, useful.

By that time, Maria had gotten up.

"Kufufu, let's try again, shall we?"

But before she could say anything else, the toffee glob Yiernoshi had thrown had landed on her mouth, effectively glueing it shut.

Yiernoshi picked up the lollipop. Suddenly, it grew into a huge staff.

It was also alight with orange flames.

Unseen by Yiernoshi, the flame on her forehead had re-ignited too. This time, the flame didn't make her hyper.

Instead, it gave her an eerie calm, and hyper intuition.

She raised the lollipop-staff, and headed for Maria.

Bonk.

The staff landed on Maria's face, and Yiernoshi refused to remove it, until her hyper intuition told her that Maria's dark aura had been purified by Yiernoshi's flame, and Maria was out cold.

She removed the lollipop, and the flame on her forehead faded.

"Uhh..."

Due to the large amount of energy spent fighting, Yiernoshi fainted.

When Yiernoshi awoke, she saw Sam and her family in the same ward. Sam, obviously, was visiting. The others were hospitalized.

With Sam was a taller youth that Yiernoshi had never seen before.

She had curly hair, and carried a thick red book titled 'The Right Word'.

The youth turned.

"Aah, you're awake. Let me introduce myself. I am Mun, twenty-sixth boss of the Portobello family."

Yiernoshi absorbed this, stunned.
