Okies! Back to the story...
-----
The next day was a Saturday. Sam had dragged Yiernoshi down to the park for some 'training'. Of course, being the loyal person she was, Christine insisted on following.
Upon reaching the park, however, they didn't actually do anything-just sat on a park bench to wait for goodness-knows-who.
Yiernoshi sighed.
"Sam, why are we stoning here?"
"We're waiting for someone."
"That's what you said the past 169 times!"
"Wow, you actually counted all of them? Amazing! As expected of the Fourteenth!"
An hour after that, their wait was finally rewarded.
"Hey! Look! It's the cute little kid!"
Yiernoshi stiffened in shock. It couldn't be. That voice was...Se Ern's? How come she recognised Sam?
"Oh, hi, Yiern and Christine! Both of you know Samsam too?"
Yiernoshi blinked. Standing there was Se Ern, and behind her, running towards them, were Jeanine and Victoria.
And what was this 'Samsam' business? Yiernoshi was willing to bet all her savings plus her position as the boss that if she ever tried calling Sam that, she'd get a kick in the head or the stomach.
"Yiernoshi, these are potential candidates for members of your family. I've called them here to test them out," Sam told Yiernoshi in an undertone.
Here Yiernoshi proceeded to freak out.
"My friends?! In my mafia
family?!"
"Why not?"
-----
Yiernoshi sat on the bench with Christine, watching as Sam gave Se Ern a weapon and a collar.
"If you put this collar on your cat, it will gain powers!"
"Really? Meeko will become SuperMeeko? How cute!"
Se Ern bent down, and slipped the collar onto Meeko. Immediately, Meeko's ears began blazing with a faint yellow flame.
"Wow, Meeko, that's so cool!"
Sam nodded.
"Now, try using that knife on those targets over there."
Se Ern's eyes widened.
"This is becoming such a fun game! Let's go, Meeko!"
Yiernoshi sighed. Of course, Se Ern would think that all this 'mafia' stuff was a game.
Se Ern had reached the first target. Holding the knife out, she slashed at it. Immediately, a sun-shaped seal appeared where the deep gash was.
"Cool!"
"That's not all," Sam smirked.
Meeko ran towards the seal, and scratched it viciously. The target blew up.
"Wow!"
Sam hopped down from her perch on the bench, where she had been sipping a latte.
"Good work, Se Ern. You are officially a member of Yiernoshi's family."
-----
As expected, Se Ern took the 'family' comment as part of the 'mafia game' that 'Samsam' had made up.
Victoria, on the other hand, believed Sam. It was the weapons that convinced her that the mafia existed. After all, if a single golf ball can burst into purple flames and blow up its target, anything is possible...right?
Jeanine, on the other hand, was something else again. When Sam whipped out a Hermes handbag, Jeanine nearly fainted in shock.
"Aah! It's the latest model! If this is what the mafia have, I'll happily join anytime!"
Besides the Hermes handbag, Jeanine ended up with a Louis Vuitton bag, a Chanel bag, and a Prada bag, all of which could shoot lightning bolts, reducing the remaining targets to ash.
So that day, Yiernoshi gained another three family members.
-----
Two weeks later, some of the students in Yiernoshi's school began to be attacked. Each of them had their watches' hour hands set at a particular number.
Yiernoshi found it suspicious. After all, the first victim had been the twelfth stongest in the entire school according to a huge list in the sports complex. Her watch had been set to 12.
The next had been the eleventh strongest. Her watch was set to 11.
And so on. Yiernoshi was sure it was a countdown, but a countdown for what?
After victim number 6, the prefects decided something had to be done. So they sent Claire, the strongest fighter in school, to deal with the problem. Or rather, they were forced to. The day after Claire left to deal with the unknown enemy, a rumour was passed around that Claire's parting words were:
"I don't care what those herbivores say. Those people humiliated my school. I will book them all to death."
-----
Claire had not returned for about a week and a half now.
Yiernoshi was worried, very worried. But what could she do? All she knew was that the attackers were from a neighbouring city, and were from a school there.
In Sam's eyes, what Yiernoshi could do was to raid the school, beat up the enemy, and stop the attacks.
So she found herself at the rusty gate of the crumbling old school, family in tow.
"Stand back."
Christine stepped forward and punched the gate. It shattered into a million little smithereens.
"Let's go in."
-----
Unknown to the five happy adventurers and one cat, they were being watched from the shadows.
"Haha...they'll never be able to reach the Master. I'll deal with them first, the pathetic little kiddies."
